The reason that you are here is that you want great photographs that are not just “nice,” but blow your doors off. And you want someone to remove the hassle out of that experience with the highest degree of professionalism. In a nutshell, that is what I deliver.

But before I talk more about why you want to work with me, let me introduce myself. I have two beautiful daughters who are the loves of my life and they bring me great joy seeing them mature into young adults. I am a native North Carolinian, have traveled to all corners of the globe and have lived abroad. I have done disaster relief work on the Gulf Coast and in Haiti. I love being active and I keep myself physically fit with running, weight lifting, tennis, golf and hiking. I SCUBA dive and I run triathlons. I love watching and talking about sports. Although I am a staunch ACC basketball fan, I have developed an appreciation and deep respect for SEC football….Go _____!!!!!! You fill in the blank….a benefit of being from North Carolina. I am a diehard fisherman and an expert woodworker. I enjoy a cold beer or nice glass of wine. I love a great joke. In short, I like to have a great time, especially when I am behind a lens.

On the professional side, I have a mechanical engineering degree from North Carolina State University and an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. When I was in grad school at UNC, I bought my first camera and have been passionate about photography for over 30 years. I worked in the tech business world for many years, created and sold companies and, after achieving success in the high technology sector, I elected to pursue my life passion of photography. I do this because I love it and I am good at it. What better way to spend a day?

What about my photos are different than the next photographer? Well, what separates the men from the boys is lighting. Lighting is the key to any great photograph and you will see that throughout my body of work. I make use of stand-alone, remote control flash to deliver results that are far superior to someone using exclusively traditional “natural” lighting or “on-camera” flash.

My ability to work with special lighting is one of the main reasons you will want to work with me. The reason a lot of photographers don’t use complex artificial lighting is that it is dang hard to do! There is a lot of technology involved, which I am very good at. But because of my diverse life experiences and training, I am able to blend that left-brain, analytical expertise with creativity and an eye for art. That is my edge for delivering great photographs.

In wedding photography or any other event, I will take some posed photos because they are a necessity. But, the best shots are the ones where I am capturing the action in a photojournalistic manner. I blend into the scene as much as possible and fire away to capture special moments. I bring a lighting assistant who’s job it is to position the lighting at the right place for great results. During times when the flash is not possible (during a wedding ceremony, for example), the assistant will serve as a second photographer.

I deal with any assignment in a professional, straight manner. First and foremost, I arrive early. There is nothing worse than adding stress to an already stressful day by having your photographer show up at the last minute (or late). I am very clear about what your package or assignment includes and if you ever have a need to change or add, I am fair about whatever you need. I will deliver the proofs to you a few days following the shoot via the web. I also provide a digital copy of all photos so that you can post them on-line, for example. I offer printing services or you are welcome to print take the digital copies and print yourself.

In short, I do everything I can to make the experience enjoyable. Let’s have fun making photographs of a lifetime!
